Angkor Thom, literally means the Great City in Khmer, was the longest capital city of ancient Khmer kingdom.
In the center of this ancient city, lies a temple called Bayon that has 52 towers adorned with big graceful expressions of the King Jayavarman VII.
Bayon Temple shows Hindu-Buddhist element. During Jayavarman VII’s golden era, Angkor Thom was believed to be a capital with 1 million habitants; in comparison London and Paris at the same period have about 30,000 habitants, to the western world the two capitals are believed to be the largest.
